GMC Savana Passenger
Two of the versions of GMC's popular Savana Passenger Van
are available with the 6.6 liter V8 Duramax turbo diesel.
The Duramax is GMC's powerful new clean diesel engine first
made available in its 2011 model year. Only the larger 3500
and 3500 extended wheelbase versions of the Savana Passenger
van are available with this engine.
GMC Savana Passenger Diesel Van
The Duramax on the Savana Passenger provides 525 pounds of
torque at 1600 RPM and 260 horsepower at 310 RPM. Unfortunately
fuel mileage ratings are not available for this vehicle.
GMC claims that the Duramax is supposed to get 11-percent
better fuel mileage than earlier GMC diesel van and truck
engines. The Duramax reduces emissions by adding a special
fluid to the exhaust.
Features of the Savana Passenger
The diesel Savana passenger vans are rear wheel drive vehicles
that feature a 6-speed automatic transmission. GMC has gone
to some trouble to make them safer and smoother riding. Four-wheel
anti-lock breaks and Stabilitrak electronic stability are
standard on all models.
Available options include All-Wheel Drive and a heavy duty
locking rear differential to make for easier driving in all
conditions. A heavy duty rear differential provides more traction
for driving on dirt or pulling trailers. A heavy duty trailer
package is also available. An engine block heater is available
to make cold weather starting easier.
Swing out side doors with glass windows make it easy to load
and unload the Savana. Remote keyless entry is also available
on some models so the driver can open the doors at the push
of a button.
The standard Savana Passenger seats 12 people but configurations
for seating up to 14 people are available. The Savana Passenger
van models that have the diesel option are the 2LS and the
2LT. Like the Chevy Passenger Express, the Savana Passenger
is designed with the comfort and safety of the passengers

system with seek and scan, air conditioning, dome lighting
and a pass key Theft deterrent system. Options include a smoker's
package, USB ports, XM satellite radio, rear air conditioning,

OnStar satellite navigation and vehicle support network.

and daytime running lights. Exterior options include chrome
grill and bumpers, a passenger side sliding door, outside
rear view mirrors with turn signal indicators. The chrome
grill and bumpers do come standard on some versions of the
Savana Passenger Van.
Some of the features available on the comparable Chevy Passenger

diesel passenger van does have a WiFi option that gives passengers
